After a full day in the scorching heat at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, Marc Marquez led the rest of the MotoGP field on Buriram test day one.
The Spaniard, having been struck by a technical issue in the morning, decided to head out on track in the last minutes of the day and set the fastest lap of the day.
Being just four-tenths off Pecco Bagnaia’s 2024 Thailand Grand Prix pole position time, Marquez gapped the rest of the field by +0.485s.
He was accompanied in the Top 3 by Alex Marquez and Franco Morbidelli, who both continued to impress on the GP24 that still seems to be close to being the benchmark in MotoGP.
Marco Bezzecchi was fourth on the leading Aprilia with a 1m29.794s, while Pedro Acosta, who had to sit out a big part of the afternoon due to a technical issue, led the KTM charge in fifth.
Luca Marini put in another encouraging day for Honda and ended the session in sixth. His Honda counterparts Joan Mir, Johann Zarco and Somkiat Chantra finished 11th, 7th and 20th.
Francesco Bagnaia was eighth, with KTM’s Brad Binder ending the day ninth-fastest. The South African turned heads in the late stages of the afternoon when he crashed out in Turn 5.
Binder wasn’t the only rider to crash out today. Enea Bastianini had an early spill in the morning as well. The Italian finished the day 16th.
Fermin Aldeguer was the top rookie in 14th, with Trackhouse Racing’s Ai Ogura completing the Top 15.
