VR46 Racing Team rider Franco Morbidelli topped the timesheets on day two of MotoGP’s Sepang test. The Italian put in a 1:57.210 and led his former Petronas SRT and Yamaha teammate Fabio Quartararo.
Morbidelli spent most of the day topping the timing sheets, being only briefly pushed down to P2 by the Quartararo.
The duo was closely followed by Alex Marquez and MotoGP rookie Fermin Aldeguer who once again impressed on the GP24 being just +0.335s off Morbidelli’s best lap.
Despite finishing the day fifth-fastest, Thursday in Sepang could have been easier for Francesco Bagnaia. The former World Champion struggled early on the day after crashing in Turn 15.
Taking quite a while to get back out on track, the Italian set a personal-best 1:57.652 to end the day in P5. On the combined timesheets however, the Italian still sits behind his teammate Marc Marquez.
Marquez was on the hunt for good time with 15 minutes to go when he lost the front into Turn 9. The Spaniard ended the day in 14th having suffered a technical problem earlier on.
Judging by his sector times, Marquez’s final lap would have been enough to place him inside the Top 5.
Marquez and Bagnaia weren’t the only fallers of the day. Pedro Acosta suffered a similarly small crash as well before eventually finishing the seventh-fastest, right behind Honda’s best Joan Mir. The Spaniard surprised with a personal-best of 1:57.791.
Having lost Jorge Martin and Raul Fernandez to injury, Marco Bezzecchi led the charge for Aprilia. “Bez” finished in 9th, sitting right between a Pramac Yamaha sandwich of Miguel Oliveira in 8th and Jack Miller in 10th.
