Ai Ogura will miss this weekend’s Aragon Grand Prix after medical checks in Barcelona confirmed his fractured right tibia has not yet healed enough for a MotoGP return.

The Trackhouse Aprilia rider suffered the injury during a crash in practice at Silverstone two weeks ago.

Initially able to walk away from the fall at turn two, Ogura was later diagnosed with a fracture just below the knee and underwent keyhole surgery to repair the damage.

Despite an optimistic early outlook, a follow-up consultation on Thursday with surgeon Dr Juan Monllau ruled out any chance of racing in round eight.

Ogura will now shift focus to returning at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello in two weeks’ time.

With the Japanese sidelined, Raul Fernandez will be the sole Trackhouse entry both during the Aragon race weekend and Monday’s post-race test.

The injury comes at a critical time in Ogura’s rookie campaign. After an impressive start to the season that briefly saw him lead the Aprilia charge, he has now dropped to twelfth in theĀ standingsĀ and sits 13 points behind Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer in the rookie of the year battle.

Ogura is not the only absentee for Aprilia this weekend. Reigning champion Jorge Martin is also out and will be replaced by test rider Lorenzo Savadori, who lines up alongside Marco Bezzecchi in the factory team.

Meanwhile, Luca Marini will also miss the round following a heavy crash during testing for the Suzuka 8 Hours. The Honda rider will not be replaced.

Ogura’s injury was initially downplayed at Silverstone, with the Japanese rider hopeful of returning to action the day after the crash.

He managed just one lap in FP2 before withdrawing due to knee pain. A more detailed scan later revealed a displaced bone fragment near the top of his tibia, which was removed during a 30-minute operation in Barcelona.

Rehabilitation has already begun, and while his recovery is progressing well, Trackhouse opted not to take any risks heading into a physically demanding weekend at MotorLand Aragon.

Ogura had been one of the standout performers in the early rounds of the season, impressing in mixed conditions and regularly finishing as the top Aprilia.
