Marc Marquez shares insights on Ducati’s team dynamics after the Barcelona test. Could a clear number one rider emerge for the 2025 MotoGP season?
At MotoGP’s post-season test in Barcelona, Marc Marquez gave his much-anticipated debut with Ducati’s factory team. Entering the team currently led by reigning double World Champion Pecco Bagnaia, the Spaniard acknowledged the hierarchy within Ducati.
“There’s no official number one or two rider, but logically, Pecco is the one calling the shots,” he explained. “He’s brought Ducati two world titles, won 11 races last year, and is the clear reference point.”
“My job is to close the gap because he’s the benchmark. If you want to become champion, you have to earn it on the track. I feel I have the best tools to fight for the title.”
During his first session with the factory team, Marquez spent most of his track time acclimating to the Desmosedici GP25. “The first few laps on a new bike are always about finding your feet, but I felt comfortable, which gives me confidence. Both Pecco and I highlighted the same strengths and weaknesses. That alignment is crucial for development.”
Ducati Corse Technical Director Mauro Grassilli highlighted the significance of Marquez’s early impressions. “The first thing he said when he entered the box was, ‘I like the bike.’ That was a relief for me.”
“Seeing him and Pecco talk and align their thoughts on the bike was an important first step. They share the same goal, which is key for the team’s success next year.”

Ducati Team Manager Davide Tardozzi echoed this sentiment. After repeatedly seeing Marquez’s data from last season, the Ducati Team Manager expects the Spaniard to have a clear edge over the rest of the MotoGP field in some areas.
“Our engineers analyze everything, and Marc is showing things no one else has. He’s above everyone else, but Pecco is unbeatable on the brakes.”
Helped by long-standing relationships with several members of the team, Marquez’s integration into the factory box went smoothly. “I’ve known many of these people for over a decade as rivals, and now we’re working together on a common goal.”
