Former World Champion Fabio Quartararo wasted no time addressing his physical struggles following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Just days after taking to the track at the post-season test in Barcelona, Quartararo underwent surgery on his right arm to alleviate recurring arm-pump issues also known as compartment syndrome.
The Frenchman announced the news on social media and shared a photo of himself after the his surgery with the caption: “Arm surgery completed! A few days of rest, and I’ll be ready to start training again.”
Arm pump occurs when increased pressure around the forearm muscles restricts blood flow, causing pain and significant strength loss. For riders, this can lead to dramatic drops in performance, particularly under braking.
The M1’s aggressive characteristics had exacerbated the arm problems for Quartararo in the past. The Frenchman experienced discomfort at multiple rounds, including in Jerez and Mugello.
The latest surgery reportedly involved cutting the fascia, the tight sheath surrounding the forearm muscles, to reduce pressure and allow greater muscle expansion.
Quartararo’s quick turnaround suggests a successful and minimally invasive procedure, likely setting him up for a full recovery ahead of the first private Yamaha tests in 2025. The 25-year-old is already looking towards returning to full fitness. “A few days of rest” were all Quartararo anticipated.
