Eddie O’Shea is gearing up for his long-awaited Moto3 debut at the Australian Grand Prix, set for October 18 at the iconic Phillip Island circuit.

The young British rider missed the opening race in Mandalika due to injury, but is determined to make an impact after finally joining the Mlav Racing team.

O’Shea, who only recently turned 18, had to wait for a special license due to his lack of titles in the Red Bull Rookies Cup or Junior World Championship. His opportunity with Michael Laverty’s team came just in time for the 15th round of the season in Indonesia after the team parted ways with Joshua Whatley over the summer break.

In the lead-up to the race in Indonesia, O’Shea had shown some solid speed, finishing 17th in his first free practice session.

Unfortunately, his promising start took a turn for the worse during the hotly contested finale of Q1, leaving the Brit with a broken fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand following a crash.

Following the exit of Joshua Whatley, British JuniorGP rider Eddie O'Shea will join MLav Racing in Moto3 from the Indonesian…

With O’Shea unable to compete in Mandalika, Laverty quickly found a replacement for the subsequent Japan GP. Japanese rider Rei Wakamatsu stepped in, finishing 20th and ensuring the team collected some valuable data despite not contending for points.

As the Australian GP approaches, O’Shea is fully committed to making the trip to Australia, where he hopes to finally make his Moto3 race debut.

However, the final call on his participation will depend on a medical assessment scheduled for next Thursday, where doctors in the medical centre will evaluate his condition.
