David Alonso takes a commanding victory at the 2024 Australian Moto3 Grand Prix, surging from 10th on the grid to win by 2.936 seconds.
The Aspar rider pulled a gap in the closing laps, securing his 11th race win in 2024 and tying Valentino Rossi’s lightweight class record. Alonso celebrated with a tribute to Rossi’s iconic podium celebration.
Behind him, chaos unfolded. A four-way battle for the podium saw Daniel Holgado, Adrian Fernandez, and Stefano Nepa all in contention.
Holgado, after dropping to 18th early on, fought his way back to secure second. Adrian Fernandez grabbed third, continuing his strong form with a third consecutive podium.
A crash involving Collin Veijer, Angel Piqueras, and polesitter Ivan Ortola allowed Holgado to escape the pack.
Meanwhile, Stefano Nepa, despite setting a race lap record, finished fourth after contact with his teammate Nicola Carraro and having to serve a double long-lap penalty. David Munoz completed the top five.
Ryusei Yamanaka came sixth after a solid race, while Taiyo Furusato and Luca Lunetta rounded out the top eight.
Angel Piqueras, after an early mistake, recovered to finish ninth ahead of Jose Antonio Rueda. Joel Kelso led briefly in his home race but had to settle 11th.
