It’s been more than five years since Marc Marquez last won the championship title in MotoGP. In 2025, the Spaniard wants to add a seventh overall win.

Twelve years would lie between Marquez’s first and  last MotoGP title. Twelve years filled with unbelievable successes, but also dramatic low points. “That’s what I’ve learnt the most from. When you win, you don’t learn much. Only when you go through difficult times do you understand certain things.”

“And you also understand what it means to win. When you’re at the top, you don’t even realise that. With all this experience, I naturally try to approach certain things a little differently. But it’s also clear that at my age you have to work a bit harder to keep the younger riders behind you.”

Marquez moved up to MotoGP in 2013 and took the class by storm finishing on the podium in his debut race and taking the first race wins of many on just his second attempt.

Marquez stood at the top of the podium five more times in 2013 and was crowned world champion at the season finale in Valencia, making him the youngest MotoGP World Champion to date.

In 2025, the Spaniard has the chance to make take an odd combination of records. Turning 32 in February, Marquez could snatch a record at the other end of the table.

Current oldest MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi was 30 years old when he took his last title back in 2009. Marquez would ‘beat’ him at the end of 2025 by more than two years.

“I don’t really like that statistic. I prefer to be the youngest world champion,’ laughed Marquez. “My comeback after the injury means more to me than my age. Last year, I proved to myself what you can achieve if you believe in yourself and never give up. I want to keep this mentality.”
