Morbidelli on Possible VR46 Switch - "Haven't Seen This Version of Me In A While"
Since his arrival on the Pramac Ducati in 2024, Franco Morbidelli has slowly edged back to the top of MotoGP. Now, he is heavily linked to VR46 Racing for 2025.
It was a big surprise to all MotoGP fans when Teams’ World Champion Pramac Racing announced they would sign Franco Morbidelli onto the team for 2024.
After three disappointing years in the factory Yamaha team, the Italian’s MotoGP career seemed to come to an end before Ducati and Pramac decided to give the 2020 runner-up a chance to revitalize his premier-class efforts.
Pramac team boss Paolo Campinoti’s plan to bring Morbidelli in as a one-year solution has worked a treat so far for both parties.
Following a few races to acclimatize to the GP24, the Italian is back to his MotoGP best and, now that Pramac Racing will leave Ducati for Yamaha, is set for a switch to VR46 Racing.
Morbidelli, finally back in contention for the Top 5, feels a first podium finish on the Ducati is coming ever closer.
“I’ve been feeling that I can get on the podium since Barcelona and at the Sachsenring I even thought I could win. I haven’t reached it yet, but I keep working and believing in it.”
“It’s great to be back at the front and to be fighting for podiums. I haven’t seen this version of me in a long time.”
His rise back to form could not come at a better time for the Italian. MotoGP silly season has come into full effect as many riders try to secure one of Ducati’s six bikes on the 2025 grid.
Obviously, being part of the VR46 Academy and following Marco Bezzecchi’s move to the factory Aprilia, Franco Morbidelli is one of the bigger candidates on the VR46 Racing list.
“I owe everything to the whole VR46 group, not just Vale. They’re the ones who made me the person and the rider I am. Racing for them would be a full-circle moment and a great story.”
