Marc Marquez Tops MotoGP Free Practice 1 at the Qatar Grand Prix

Marc Marquez continues where he left off in Austin and tops FP1 in Qatar by more than half a second. Jorge Martin makes his return to the track.

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin is back! In a Free Practice 1 session dominated by Marc Marquez, the Spaniard gets a first feel for the 2025 Aprilia and finished the session 20th, trailing the frontrunner by +1.824 seconds.

A Jack Miller crash at Turn 4 robbed Marquez of another chance to improve but his previous lap was plenty good enough to head up a Ducati 1-2-3-4 leading Fabio di Giannantonio, Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez.

Taking out a fresh set of tyres in the late stages of the session, Maverick Vinales led the charge for KTM in fifth ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Fermin Aldeguer.

Joan Mir was top Honda rider in eighth beating fresh-tyre-runners (like Vinales) Bezzeecchi and Pedro Acosta for the last spot in the top 8.

It was a disappointing day for Yamaha with Quartararo leading the Japaneses’s charge in P11, once again proving that a dirty, non-ideal track leaves the M1 riders struggling.
