Six-time MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has topped the first session of the new MotoGP season. The Spaniard led Franco Morbidelli and Yamaha star Fabio Quartararo in FP1.

Having set a 1:29.423 relatively early into the session, Marquez stayed atop until the very end as Pramac returnee Jack Miller made it two Yamahas in the Top 4 with a 1:29.840.

Marquez’s teammate Francesco Bagnaia did not have the start to the race weekend he will had hoped for. Troubles with the front end, especially under braking, had the Italian struggling for lap time, finishing 10th on the timesheet.

The two-time World Champion finished behind Maverick Vinales, who suffered an early tech issue, Miguel Oliveira and FP1 rookie surprise Ai Ogura.

The Japanese beat his teammate Raul Fernandez by more than a second. Fernandez finished the day in 21st.

After surprising the Honda fans in the early stages of the sesion, briefly sitting as high as 5th on the timesheet, all four HRC riders saw themselves tumbling down the order in the last minutes. Johann Zarco once again led the charge for the Japanese in 11th.
