Gigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse, has confirmed the team, for the final stretch of the season, will not upgrade the GP24 any further to guarantee a fair title fight between Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
With the season quickly approaching its end and just ten points separating the two riders, Dall’Igna has revealed that Ducati will not introduce any new technical innovations in a bid to ensure a level playing field between the two.
“This is a sport and it’s important that it stays as a sport,” said Dall’Igna. “The fight for the championship must remain fair and competitive, and for me, the best rider must win.”
The fact that new upgrades might play into the hands of factory Ducati rider, Bagnaia, and not Martin, raised questions over the actual fairness of the title fight in the paddock.
However, Dall’Igna answered that categorically, saying no new developments were brought in to favor one rider in the title fight.
“I think it is important that we have not introduced any further technical innovations to prevent one of the two riders being favoured over the other,” he added, firmly dispelling any rumors that Ducati might prioritize Bagnaia’s chances for a third consecutive title.
Dall’Igna also denied any interference with Martin’s racing: “Those who say that we won’t let Jorge Martin win don’t know my story. Someone else might have made different decisions.”
