After keeping tight-lipped sinceĀ taking the title in November, new MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has confirmed he will race with the #1 plate on his Aprilia in 2025.
Martin’s bike with the number one was revealed as part of Aprilia’s launch – held in the studios of Italian MotoGP broadcaster Sky Italia. The Italian factory team is the second outfit to reveal its 2025 colours after Aprilia satellite team Trackhouse Racing did so two days prior.
“I didn’t have any doubts about putting the #1 plate on my bike, because I’ve been fiighting for it all my life,” Martin explained.
“So finally winning the world championship in MotoGP and being able to put this number on this amazing Aprilia is super nice. Hopefully we can have much more motivation with this number. I feel great with it.”
“I’ve kept the small #89 inside and the two stars, because I’m a two-time world champion. Hopefully, we can add more stars in the future!”
The number one has been a relatively rare sight in the MotoGP era, in large part thanks to the fact that its two defining riders – seven-time champion Valentino Rossi and six-time champion Marc Marquez – favoured sticking with their permanent numbers instead of setting out to defend their title with the #1 plate on their bike.
Apart from the introduction of a new sponsor in Italian dairy company Sterilgarda, the Aprilia works livery in itself remained relatively unchanged compared to 2024. Sterilgarda was prominent on the bikes of Aprilia’s satellite team Trackhouse Racing last year.

“In the short term, let’s say [establishing] the relationship between the team, the [new] riders and the bike is the priority. The shorter that time is, the faster will be the second step.”
According to test rider Lorenzo Savadori,Ā who recently signed a contract extension, the new bike “is a step forwardĀ compared to the old one” as Aprilia “worked on some detailsĀ – like agility, the behaviour of the bike, aerodynamics” – over the winter break.
