Fractures! Jorge Martin to Miss Remainder of MotoGP Sepang Test
Reigning World Champion Jorge Martin will miss the remainder of the Sepang MotoGP test after suffering fractures following a major crash.
Jorge Martin’s recovery remains uncertain as MotoGP’s medical director rules out his return for Argentina and assesses his chances for Austin.
When Jorge Martin posted an image of himself showing both his injured hands without bandages online, fans immediately sparked speculation about whether the “Work in progress!” caption he shared, could hint at an early return to action.
However, MotoGP’s medical director, Dr. Angel Charte, was quick to shut down the rumors.
The Spaniard stated “the rider is still in recovery,” and categorically ruled out Martin’s return to track action at MotoGP’s next Grand Prix in Argentina: “[A return is] absolutely out of the question.”
Although doctors are unwilling to rush the recovery process, a return for the Grand Prix of the Americas, scheduled for the weekend of March 30, could be possible for the reigning World Champion.
“The updates on Jorge are positive. His pain has decreased significantly, and as he showed on social media, he has started moving around at home.”
“We’re dealing with an injury that, in a normal person, would require three months of rehabilitation.”
“A scaphoid fracture needs time – it’s a very delicate bone that can result in permanent damage.”
“We’ve spoken with Jorge and told him that he won’t be going to Argentina, and that we’ll assess the possibility of Austin a few days before the race.”
“But if the bone hasn’t healed, he won’t be able to travel,” Dr. Charte, who will examine Martin on March 24 in Barcelona.
Luck has not been on Martin’s side at the start of 2025. The new Aprilia rider crashed twice on the first day of testing in Sepang, suffering a double fracture to the head of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand and fractures to the third, fourth, and fifth metatarsals in his left foot.
The Spaniard underwent surgery on his hand two days later and missed the entire pre-season.

His recovery was progressing, and Martin’s return had been confirmed for MotoGP’s season-opener in Thailand on February 28, when another unexpected incident struck the 2024 champion.
The day before traveling to Buriram, Martin went to a karting track for a few laps on a supermoto bike to test his right hand.
Misfortune struck again when he suffered another crash, this time injuring his left hand, sustaining a displaced fracture of the distal radius, fractures of the carpal scaphoid and triquetrum, and a non-displaced fracture of the calcaneus in his left foot, forcing him to miss at least the first two race weekends of the season.
