MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin has suffered another big setback ahead of the 2025 season opener in Thailand.
MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin is forced to sit out the season opener at Thailand after the Spaniard fractured his left hand in a training accident.
Just days before the first Grand Prix weekend of the season in Buriram, the 27-year-old has suffered yet another major setback.
Martin was already recovering from two severe injuries sustained in his massive Sepang test crash. Having had sucessful surgery in early February, the Spaniard was set for a quick return to the bike for the Thai GP.
Now, less than a week before the 2025 season kicks off, all hope for a proper start to the season is lost for the reigning champion. He will need immediate surgery on his new injury completing a fraud preseason for the Spaniard.

Martin got his first taste of the RS-GP at MotoGP post-season test in November but has yet to complete a full session on the Italians’ 2025 bike.
Aprilia was willing to let Martin treat the first few rounds of the season as an extended test programme to get acquainted with his new machine. Like for MotoGP’s last pre-season test, the Italian outfit’s test rider Lorenzo Savadori may replace Martin this weekend.
