After Pedro Acosta was sidelined during the Australian GP, missing the race on Sunday due to a heavy high side in the Sprint that left him nursing a shoulder injury, the Spaniard has been declared fit to ride at the Thai Grand Prix.

Following intense recovery work in the week after the Australian Grand Prix, he feels confident his performance won’t be hindered heading into the Buriram round.

Acosta was upbeat when asked how he was feeling after his injury: “Much better, much better. In the end, we made a lot of days at the physio, a lot of sessions. The pain under movement improved a lot since Australia.”

Acosta has been through an intense rehabilitation program, focusing on minimizing the pain and getting back to full strength. The 19-year-old doesn’t expect major issues handling his RC-16 in Buriram.

“I don’t think [it will be an issue]. The track is quite gentle. We don’t have a lot of direction changes and there are a lot of points to rest the arm. Let’s see what is going on with the arm on Friday,” he explained, highlighting that Buriram’s long straights will provide him with opportunities to ease the strain on his shoulder.

Given the Thai track has always been a good hunting ground for KTM and Acosta himself, the Spanish rookie thinks he can salvage a good result even though he might still be a little hindered by his shoulder:

“Well, it’s a good opportunity for us, that’s clear. Let’s see what we can manage. Last year, Brad did an awesome race. It’s usually a great track for KTM because of the hard braking so let’s see what we can achieve.”
