Jorge Martin shares how overcoming mental struggles and focusing on the present helped him secure his first MotoGP title in Barcelona.
Jorge Martin’s victory at the Solidarity Grand Prix in Barcelona crowned him 2024 MotoGP World Champion, but the path to this achievement was far from easy.
After clinching the title in the 2024 season finale, the Spaniard shared the emotional and mental hurdles he overcame to reach his “ultimate goal”.
“Last season was great, even after being second, I was quite happy,” Martin said. “But I started to have a lot of fears. I was really scared, like I will never be champion in MotoGP.”
Martin revealed how those fears nearly derailed his hopes, leading to a critical turning point. Thanks to the support of his coach, he was able to shift his focus toward winning, rather than being consumed by the possibility of failure.
“I improved a lot. I was more focused on the hope of winning than on the fear of losing. If I lose, ‘okay, I’m not dying. This is life, it’s not ending here,’” Martin explained.
“But I was without hope for winning – not only for me, but for my team, for my family, all the closest [members].”
The key to his championship-winning season, Martin said, was learning from his past and not repeating the same mistakes. “You can make mistakes, it’s completely normal; we are human and we make mistakes,” he said.

“The important thing is to take the positives from the mistakes and say, ‘Okay, I will learn from this and won’t repeat it.’”
For Martin, living in the moment became a cornerstone of his mentality, allowing him to channel his full potential in 2024 without overthinking about what went wrong in the past.
“For me, the key is living in the present. We never know about the future – who knows [what it holds]? So live in the present, improve from the past, and just do your 100%. That’s it.”
