MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez continues in Austin where he left off two weeks ago in Termas de Rio Hondo and tops the timesheets on Practice Friday.
There was no way past the Spaniard when the track in Austin finally dried off after a long day of rain and wet weather setups.
Being the first rider to try out the slick tyres with twenty minutes to go, Jack Miller quicly showed that the crossover point between dry and wet weather tyres had been reached.
When the rest of the field followed the Aussie onto the slicks, it was once again Marc Marquez that had the MotoGP grid in a stranglehold.
The Spaniard led a Ducati 1-2-3-4-5 ahead of both VR46 riders, his brother Alex Marquez and rookie surprise Fermin Aldeguer.
Marquez’s factory Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia sighed a breath of relief once the clock ran out as he finished the day tenth-fastest, trailing the frontrunners by more than 1.5s.
Taking advantage of the ‘Miller-esque’ conditions, the Aussie led the charge for Yamaha securing the only direct spot in Q2 fir the Japanese manufacturer in 6th ahead of Pedro Acosta and last year’s Americas GP dominator Maverick Vinales.
After a late crash by Johann Zarco, Joan Mir set the fastest time by a Honda rider in P9.
