Marc Marquez claimed his 15th consecutive victory at the Barcelona MotoGP sprint, after his brother Alex crashed out from the lead with just three laps to go.

Fabio Quartararo and Fabio di Giannantonio completed the podium.

Alex Marquez launched from pole and took the holeshot into Turn 1, leading the early stages ahead of a cracking battle between his brother Marc, Fabio Quartararo and Pedro Acosta.

Following a bit of contact here and there and some hard but fair overtakes, Marquez eventually got the better of his two rivals and quickly started to build a one-second gap to Quartararo behind him.

While the Frenchman had all eyes on staying with the Marquez brothers ahead of him, Pedro Acosta started to fade by half-race distance, and, without giving much of a fight, let di Giannantonio slip through.

The drama began on lap 8 when both Aprilia factory riders were eliminated in separate incidents within a minute.

Franco Morbidelli took out Jorge Martin in Turn 10, while Fermin Aldeguer tangled with Marco Bezzecchi. All four retired.

By now, Alex Marquez looked on course for his second sprint victory of the season, but disaster struck just a lap later.

An unforced error dropped him in the gravel, handing the race to elder brother Marc Marquez.

Quartararo secured second, 1.299s adrift, while di Giannantonio brought home third for VR46.

Acosta led a tight KTM battle in fourth, fending off Tech3’s Enea Bastianini and factory rider Brad Binder, the trio covered by less than a tenth at the flag.

Johann Zarco salvaged seventh for LCR Honda ahead of Luca Marini on the factory RC213V.

Ai Ogura finished ninth, with Miguel Oliveira completing the top ten on the Pramac Yamaha.

Pecco Bagnaia endured another torrid outing, finishing only 14th on the factory Ducati and tainting the otherwise great mood in the Ducati team, which sealed their sixth consecutive Constructors’ Championship.
