Marc Marquez made MotoGP history at Mugello by claiming his 100th career pole position, becoming the first rider ever to hit triple digits in Grand Prix racing.
The Ducati rider topped a close Q2 session, setting a new all-time lap record around the iconic Italian track.
As Q2 began, the Marquez brothers led the field onto the first flying laps. It didn’t take long for the fireworks to start: Marc Marquez immediately went fastest with a new lap record.
Quartararo briefly slotted into third with Bagnaia almost matching Marquez’s lap record time as the session reached its halfway point.
Morbidelli then joined the Ducati charge to make it a provisional 1-2-3 for the Bologna.
Quartararo quickly took over the Italian’s P3 spot and continued to hover around the front row before eventually being bumped down to fourth by Alex Marquez.
Having led Friday’s Practice sessions and FP2 on Saturday morning, Maverick Vinales failed to match the frontrunner’s hot lap pace but settled for a solid P5 on the grid.
The Spaniard led the charge for KTM ahead of the VR46 duo of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio di Giannantonio.
Like his KTM colleague Vinales, Pedro Acosta was unable to further up his good-looking Practice pace, leaving him in a *slightly* disappointing P8.
Alex Rins rounded out the top nine with Marco Bezzecchi managing no better than 10th – a serious disappointment given the Aprilia rider was up at the sharp end of the timesheet all weekend so far.
Barely beating his Aprilia colleague Raul Fernandez – who had a strong showing in Mugello in 11th – Marco Bezzecchi will now have to turn what was expected to be a home GP fight for the podium into yet another all-too-familiar 2025 comeback story.
