Fermin Aldeguer claimed his first win since Germany after a tense last-lap battle with Aron Canet at the Australian Grand Prix.

The race saw multiple lead changes between the pair, with contact on the final lap through MG Corner. Aldeguer, leaning at an extreme angle, held his line as Canet’s knee took a hit from the Spaniard’s front tyre, only narrowly avoiding a crash.

Aldeguer crossed the line just 0.194s ahead, taking victory from pole with Canet finishing a close second. Rookie Senna Agius impressed in third.

Manuel Gonzalez, forced to take a long-lap penalty after a qualifying infraction, dropped from fourth to sixth, battling Barry Baltus. Tony Arbolino, struggling with his bike, finished eighth after running wide, fending off Sergio Garcia.

Deniz Oncu’s day ended in disappointment after a crash at the Miller Hairpin, while Ayumu Sasaki’s collision with Jake Dixon and Dennis Foggia on lap one led to early exits for all three riders.
