Josh Whatley & MLav Racing To Part Ways Mid-Moto3-Season
After a troubled first half of the 2024 season, Josh Whatley and MLav Racing will part ways as the Brit “simply outgrew his Moto3 machine”.
Josh Whatley and the MLav Racin team have mutually agreed to end their Moto3 contract aheadĀ of the 2024 summer break.
Team Owner Michael Laverty explains the harsh decision with the Brit’s growth and weight gain as he matured over the last two years.
“It’s disappointing to complete the season with Josh […]. The Moto3 class is more suited to smaller, lighter riders.”
The team signed Whatley back in 2022 as a 16-year-old. The pairing continued to improve over the course of the 2023 season before suffering a serious injury at the end of the Brit’s second Moto3 campaign.
Whatley worked hard to return to full fitness over the winter break and managed to be back at his best at the start of the new season.
“It’s clear to see from the data that Josh is riding great, however, it’s nigh impossible to negate [such a big] power-to-weight ratio.”
“Josh has simply outgrown his Moto3 machine as he matured and will be much more rewarded in a larger capacity class.”
