Joan Mir Manager Denies 2026 Honda MotoGP Extension Is Signed
Although it is a “priority” for Joan Mir, the Spaniard’s managar denies he has signed a Honda MotoGP contract extension for 2026.
Following revelations by Autosport, Joan Mir is to remain with Repsol Honda for another two years, the Spaniard’s manager Paco Sanchez denies a contract extension has been signed yet talking to crash.net.
“We haven’t signed an agreement yet. We’re negotiating, and I hope we could reach an agreement in the upcoming weeks, but we haven’t signed anything yet.”
Despite ongoing technical woes and the RC213V lacking performance even more than in 2023, Sanchez says it has been “Joan’s priority to extend his contract with HRC” since the start of the season.
In recent weeks Mir had been imminent to voice his concerns over the project’s current direction. “I don’t think my body can take it much longer,” the Spaniard was cited on MotoGP.com talking about the Honda’s crash-ridden last two years.
His manager, however, is quick to deny any disbelief in the team’s efforts: “Although the bike isn’t competitive at the moment, Joan does not like to exit from the back door. He wants to help build a competitive bike.”
As time is ticking and more and more seats on the 2025 grid get filled by other riders, the 2020 World Champion wants his future clear relatively soon.
“I need to have things more clear about what I want to do. Probably in Assen, we’ll know more.”
