With just four rounds to go in 2024, Ducati has confirmed that it will halt development on the GP24 leaving championship rivals and teammates Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin fighting for the title on equal machinery. No further upgrades will be introduced in 2024 as the Italians lay focus on the 2025 season.

Francesco Bagnaia tested a new chassis at Misano but revealed that despite the promising results, neither he nor Martin will be able to use the upgrade this year due to a lack of available parts.

“At Misano, I tested a new chassis, which neither I nor Jorge will be able to use this year. Basically, because it’s an evolution that Ducati should be able to offer by contract to all the riders who ride the GP24, but unfortunately, there are not enough parts,” Bagnaia explained.

The reigning world champion was a little disappointed by Ducati’s decision to freeze the bike’s development, given the huge potential of the new chassis.

“Our bike will stay as it is until the end of the season. And it’s a pity because it’s an important step forward, which could probably help to make a difference. But Ducati was always clear about that, and the two bikes will be the same until the end. This chassis will be the starting point for next year’s Ducati.”

Despite the Desmosedici GP24 being a "great" bike, Pecco Bagnaia thinks it's not the best-ever MotoGP Ducati. The Italian…

While the Italian lamented the missed opportunity for a performance boost for the final stretch of the season, his title rival Jorge Martin remains more than content with the current setup.

“Ducati is backing me 100%. My bike is perfect, and I’m convinced that it will stay that way until the world championship is over.”

The halt in development could be a critical factor in this title race, which has already seen several big momentum swings. Knowing that any further mechanical advantage is off the table, Bagnaia and Martin will fight on equal footing for the remainder of the season.
