David Alonso to Start Moto2 Career with Aspar in 2025
David Alonso is set to start his Moto2 career in 2025 as he will step up to the intermediate class within the CFMOTO Aspar structure.
After months of speculation, it’s now official: Moto3 sensation David Alonso will move up to Moto2 in 2025. The 18-year-old Colombian, currently leading the Moto3 standings, has secured a spot in Aspar CFMOTO team, rewarding his remarkable performances in the lightweight class.
Alonso’s 2025 promotion was confirmed by Jorge Martinez who wasted no time in retaining the young talent for his Moto2 squad. Alonso, who will ride a Kalex next year, does not yet have a confirmed teammate and will replace Jake Dixon who will join MarcVDS in 2025.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that Izan Guevara could join Pramac Racing’s newly structured Moto2 team as Dani Holgado could move tin the team from Moto3.
Alonso: “I think this is the perfect time to move up a category. This year, we’ve shown our strength in Moto3, and now, with this confirmation, the goal is to enter Moto2 as Moto3 champion.”
“It’s an honor to make this step with the CFMOTO Aspar Team; they’re more than just a team to me, they’re like family. They believed in me back in 2017 when I was just 11, and together we’ve achieved so much. I want to keep growing with them and aim for even more success.”
Jorge Martinez echoed the rider’s sentiments, expressing his pride in the Colombian progression throughout his first two season in Grand Prix seasons.
“It’s a joy to say that David will be one of our Moto2 riders next year. He has grown with us and reached an incredibly high level in Moto3. We’re hoping to finish the year with the title and for him to make the jump to Moto2 as a world champion,” Martinez stated.

Alonso’s 2024 season has been nothing short of dominant. With the exception of a tenth-place finish in Jerez, where he had to recover from a crash, the Aspar rider has finished every race in the top five.
His seven victories this season have given him a 75-point lead over second-place rider Collin Veijer, making him as the clear favorite for the Moto3 championship.
Alonso will join the intermediate as only the second Colombian rider in the championship’s history, following in the footsteps of Yonny Hernandez. Hernandez, who also raced for Aspar in the premier MotoGP class, made his mark in Moto2 before eventually climbing to MotoGP.
