Bezzecchi Wins Wild British GP After Quartararo Heartbreak

Fabio Quartararo crashes out from a dominant lead due to a Yamaha failure, handing Marco Bezzecchi a dramatic win at Silverstone.

The original start only made it to lap 3 before being red-flagged due to an oil spill caused by a crash involving Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro.

Just moments earlier, Marc Marquez had gone down from the lead – a twist that ultimately worked in his favour, with the restart granting all riders a second chance since race distance hadn’t yet reached the minimum 3-lap threshold.

That left everything reset for a 19-lap sprint to the finish.

Quartararo grabbed the holeshot on the restart and immediately pulled clear, stretching out a comfortable 4.5-second lead as rivals like Jack Miller and Johann Zarco fought over scraps behind.

It looked like a return to the top step on the podium for the Frenchman. But with just seven laps to go, disaster struck.

Quartararo’s rear ride height device failed to disengage – a mechanical issue that forced him to retire from the lead.

Yamaha admitted they were still trying to understand what had gone wrong but praised Quartararo’s performance, saying: “We’re very sorry! He was the fastest rider today.”

As Quartararo rolled to a stop, Bezzecchi – who had been steadily closing the gap – found himself in front, holding a three-second advantage with five laps remaining.

From there, the Aprilia rider kept his cool, pulling clear of the chaos behind to win comfortably.

Johann Zarco kept himself in the mix and came home second, while Marc Marquez clawed his way back into the top three after an early scare saw him run wide and drop to ninth.

Slowly but surely, the #93 picked off Mir, then Morbidelli, and inherited third once Quartararo retired.

Morbidelli did briefly re-pass Marquez in the final stages, even moving into third momentarily, but the Honda rider struck back to secure the podium finish.

Marquez’s Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia had a torrid day. A mistake saw him run wide early and drop out of the top 10, before a crash on lap 4 ended his race entirely.

He was left kneeling on the grass, staring skyward in disbelief – a fitting image for the former champ’s miserable Sunday.
