Marco Bezzecchi ended a sweltering first MotoGP free practice at Mugello fastest — but only by the finest of margins, matching Pedro Acosta’s best time to the thousandth of a second in a final push.
The Aprilia rider was one of the few to make use of the closing stages of FP1 as the track rubbered in, jumping to the top despite an identical 1m45.091s lap time to Acosta.
Earlier, Acosta had briefly held top spot and looked primed to go even quicker until a late mistake saw him barely managing to stay upright as he ran through the gravel trap outside of San Donato. Acosta ended the session second fastest.
The Spaniard’s KTM teammate Brad Binder briefly looked like the fastest man on track as he launched KTM into a 1-2 position mid-session, but was eventually pushed back to third.
Behind him, Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the top five after the Italian’s late flyer in the final minute pushed Fabio Quartararo down to P6.
Meanwhile, Pecco Bagnaia had another frustrating session that was plagued by returning front-end woes.
Not quite there yet 🙂↔️

The reigning champion first ran through the gravel at turn 4, then blew a braking point into San Donato and later went straight on at turn 6.
Having started on the smaller 340mm brake disc, a change to bigger 355mm spec didn’t prove as problem-solving as in Aragon.
Bagnaia ended the session in 8th right behind Maverick Vinales on the Tech3 KTM.
Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco rounded out the top ten.
Among the early incidents, Raul Fernandez had the first and only crash of the weekend so far suffering a high-speed get-off through turn 8.

While the Spaniard was unharmed, the crash ruined his first chance to ride a 2025-spec Aprilia that was fully up to date with the factory bikes.
Ducati’s updated aero made its race weekend debut, with both Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio fielding one bike each in the new spec.
