Bastianini Takes Uncontested Sprint Win as Ducati Lock Out Top 8
Enea Bastianini wins the Thai GP Sprint as Jorge Martin put in a statement podium performance. Ducati does something that hasn’t been done in 28 years.
After a dominant performance at Buriram, Enea Bastianini takes his second sprint win of the season. He leads Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia onto the podium.
Martin, having forced himself and Pecco Bagnaia wide into Turn 1 on the first lap fell back to 5th. The Spaniard worked his way through Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia with quite some aggressive moves. His lead in the championship grows to 22 points.
Only faller of the race was rookie Pedro Acosta who re-joined the race only to reitre into the pits with four laps to go. It’s the GASGAS rider’s fourth DNF in a row.
Acosta’s early crash opened the door for a Marquez brothers 4-5 ahead of Franco Morbidelli. The Italian had to fight hard against both VR46 riders with Marco Bezzecchi, after a horrendous first lap, recovering to 7th. Ducati lock out the Top 8 of a race for the first time since Honda did at Montmelo in 1996.
