With ablistering time of 1’28.700, World Champion Pecco Bagnaia take spole position at the 2024 Thai Grand Prix. The Italian was the man to beat in qualifiying from the get-go.
Drama unfolded for championship leader Jorge Martin. The Spaniard, on pace for a new all-time lap record, tipped over the limit into Turn 5 ending his Q2 effort early and in the gravel trap.
Dodging big damage, he will still start on the front behind his title rival Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini. Martin’s crash started a crash fest in th fight for pole as, within one minute, Marc Marquez, Franco Morbidelli and Johann Zarco all found their Q2 ended early.
As Marquez crashed out, it was Marco Bezzecchi who took the Spaniard’s spot as fastest GP23 rider, taking P4 by +0.062 seconds.
Biggest surprise of the weekend is Fabio Quartararo, who despite having to save a massive front end slip and having to fight his way through Q1, will start a strong 6th on the grid. The Frenchman pushed Pedro Acosta, again the only KTM rider in Q2, off the second row.
