Alex Marquez delivered a clinical performance at a cold and windy Silverstone to secure his first sprint victory of the 2025 MotoGP season, leading home his brother Marc Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio in a race that unravelled quite dramatically for reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia.
Starting behind Fabio Quartararo, Alex Marquez wasted no time in launching an attack.
By the end of lap two, he had already dispatched the Yamaha rider and taken control of the race, capitalising on a wide moment from Marc Marquez to snatch the lead.
From there, the Gresini Ducati rider was untouchable, setting the fastest lap on lap three and steadily stretching a gap.
Marc Marquez settled into second after his early excursion, never quite able to reel his brother back in despite posting personal bests mid-race.
The elder Marquez had taken the lead at Turn 15 on the opening lap after a lightning start from second, but ultimately couldn’t match Alex’s rhythm in the closing stages.
Behind the leading duo, di Giannantonio starred in a fierce fight for third. The VR46 rider hounded Quartararo early on, finally making a move stick on lap five.
He then set his sights on Bagnaia and overtook the factory Ducati rider on lap eight in what became the pivotal moment in the battle for the final podium spot.
Bagnaia’s day quickly spiralled. After a prolonged scrap with Quartararo, his pace disintegrated in the final three laps.
First, Bezzecchi muscled through, then Zarco followed suit, with the Ducati man barely clinging to sixth at the chequered flag – just 0.174s ahead of a charging Quartararo.
Bezzecchi and Zarco capitalised on the chaos to finish fourth and fifth respectively – both putting in strong late-race charges.
Pedro Acosta also impressed in the latter stages, recovering from a poor start to claw his way back up to eighth, marking the top KTM effort.
Miller, who suffered a massive headshake on lap six, lost ground quickly and ended the day ninth, while Luca Marini completed the top 10 for Honda.

The only rider to crash was Brad Binder, going down on lap two, bringing out the yellow flags early in the race.
He had opted for a medium front tyre – one of only two riders to deviate from the soft-soft compound choice, which may have contributed to his early exit.
