Marc Marquez ended Friday practice on top at Misano, setting the pace ahead of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi and VR46 Ducati rider Franco Morbidelli.
After Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi had spent some time at the top of the timesheet, Marquez took control mid-session with a 1:31.026 and later, even before most riders went out on their final time attacks, improved to a 1:30.480, securing the fastest time of the day.
His closest rival as of late, Bezzecchi, finished just 0.147s adrift, while Morbidelli completed the top three with a 1:30.673.
Pecco Bagnaia showed mixed signs on the factory Ducati. After briefly topping the times, having set the first 1:30 lap of the weekend, he ran into his all too familiar braking issues.
Getting a little frustrated there 💢

Still some work to do for @PeccoBagnaia despite P6 👍#SanMarinoGP 🇸🇲 pic.twitter.com/DNRFo98mkz
Not managing to improve any further, the Italian ended the session fourth, 0.230s off his teammate.
Alex Marquez made it four Ducatis inside the top five with a late improvement, while Honda delivered one of its best showings of the season.
Joan Mir placed sixth and Luca Marini, improving on his last attempt, seventh. Both factory Hondas will feature in Q2 tomorrow morning.
Jorge Martin, still struggling with one-lap pace on the Aprilia, salvaged eighth after being towed to a 1:30.857 by his already-Q2-bound teammate Bezzecchi.
Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio claimed the final automatic Q2 spots in ninth and tenth after a late push from the VR46 rider pushed Johann Zarco out of the Top 10 with seconds left on the clock.
Yellow flags disrupted the closing stages after multiple crashes. Joan Mir, Raul Fernandez, Jack Miller, and Augusto Fernandez all fell in the final minutes, though all riders were unhurt.
A painful one for @JoanMirOfficial at Turn 9

Is P4 enough to keep his Q2 spot with a little over 2 minutes to go? 🤔#SanMarinoGP 🇸🇲 pic.twitter.com/M0SGQakZsl
Fabio Quartararo missed a direct Q2 place, finishing 12th. Brad Binder led the second KTM group in 13th, with Maverick Viñales 14th. Further down, Raul Fernandez was 15th, and Miller 16th.
The biggest victim of the late yellow flags was Enea Bastianini, who had to abort multiple fast lap attempts due to riders crashing in front of him. The local hero, born just a few kilometres away in Rimini, ended the day a disappointing 17th.
Behind Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer, a fight for ‘Best of the Yamaha Rest’ broke out with wildcard Augusto Fernandez bringing home a promising 19th place on the all-new V4-powered M1.
Alex Rins, Ai Ogura, Miguel Oliveira and Somkiat Chantra completed the field.
