2024 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin will miss the remainder of the Sepang MotoGP test after medical checks revealed fractures in both, his right hand and left foot.
The Spaniard suffered two big crashes during the first three hours of testing. After a more or less harmless fall in the first 45 minutes, a second highside, this time in Sepang’s turn 2, had Martin taken to the medical centre before being transferred to a nearby hospital where further checks revealed multiple fractures.
A CT scan, as well as a MRI, both came out negative for any additional injuries. Still, the 27-year-old will stay in hospital overnight and fly back to Europe on Thursday to undergo surgery on both his right hand and left foot.
Whether the Spaniard will be back for MotoGP last preseason test in Buriram remains unclear. The class’ last outing before the season opener at the same track is just a week away.
This was @88jorgemartin's awful highside in his first hours with the number 1 plate 💢

Martin was not the only rider to end day one injured. Fellow Spaniard Raul Fernandez suffered an early blow to his hopes of a solid preseason when he crashed during the first half of the day, fracturing a metacarpal bone in his left hand and suffering additional “small fractures in his foot”.
He will miss the two remaining days of running in Sepang as well and fly back to Spain for a possible surgery. It’s the second year in a row, Fernandez will miss a big portion of the first outing of the year.
In 2024, the then-Aprilia-newcomer, stepped back from testing after a major crash in Sepang’s turn eleven.
UPDATE: Fabio Di Giannantonio is the newest additioin on the list. The Italian fractured his left collarbone and will fly to Italy tonight to get surgery.
