Following a four-year hiatus, the Automotodromo Brno is set for a return to the MotoGP calendar in 2025. The fan- and rider-favorite track was dropped from the schedule due to the former owner’s unwillingness to resurface the aging tarmac back in 2020.

However, since the city of Brno has made a commitment to restore the circuit to FIM Grade A level, the Grand Prix circus will return to the much-loved track next season.

Brno Mayor Markete Vankova expressed her excitement for the return of MotoGP: “By signing the memorandum, we are making it clear that we are interested in the Motorcycle World Championship. We provide 35 million [Czech] Crowns annually for the organization of the race.”

“We see this as an investment in the global promotion of our city. MotoGP belongs to Brno. I am looking forward to the third weekend in July, when the best motorbike racers will race on the Masaryk Circuit,” Vankova said.

The track’s revival project will focus heavily on resurfacing the entire circuit and adding more run-off.  According to Automotodrom Brno’s circuit chief, Hubacek, work is already in motion. “We are already working on what we can do this year. For example, we are talking to Dorna about how we can modify some of the run-off area.”

“We can’t work on the new tarmac until spring because the weather doesn’t allow it. We are already preparing everything, but the new tarmac will not arrive until March.”

Hubacek emphasized that the resurfacing is just part of a broader effort to bring the circuit back up to MotoGP standards. “For me, the memorandum is another milestone in our long tradition. We appreciate the joint efforts of all those involved to provide long-term support for an event whose importance goes far beyond motorsport.”

Meanwhile, Jan Stovicek, President of the Czech Automobile Club, reinforced the cultural and economic importance of hosting MotoGP at the Masaryk Circuit.

“Motorsport has a long tradition in the Czech Republic and, above all, great fans. As a global event, MotoGP brings a great boost to the region and the entire Czech Republic.”
