Filip Salac is set to continue his Moto2 journey with Marc VDS after a tumultuous season left his future uncertain. The 22-year-old Czech rider, who has progressed through the ranks from the Rookies Cup to Moto2, has been confirmed by team owner Marc van der Straten to remain with the established Belgian team.
Salac will be joined by Jake Dixon as his new teammate, replacing the impressive Tony Arbolino. Arbolino, who led the race in Misano until late on, is poised to challenge for the title in 2025 with the restructured Pramac-Yamaha, former Mastercamp Moto2 team.
After moving to Marc VDS this season from Gresini, Salac has begun to find his footing as the championship approaches its end. The early races were tough, with Salac unable to finish the first two rounds and sidelined for four consecutive races due to an injury sustained at Mugello.
Van der Straten commented on the contract extension, saying, “We trust he will deliver the results we all desire. It’s true that this season’s results have been far from what we expected and what we know Filip is capable of.”
“It has been a challenging adjustment year, worsened by injuries. However, I believe that with the support we provide, Filip can make a strong comeback.”
Salac’s potential as an ambassador for the reinstated Brno GP was highlighted in Misano, where he finished seventh in the opening race and matched Arbolino’s pace in practice, ultimately qualifying third. He ended the race in tenth, placing him 16th in the current championship standings.
The Czech himself stated, “I want to thank the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team and especially Marc for the chance to stay with this fantastic project in 2025. They continue to believe in me, and that support has given me confidence, evident in my performances over the last three races.”
For Salac, 2025 will bring a significant shift as the Belgian team transitions from the German chassis manufacturer Kalex to the Italian rival Boscoscuro. Kalex recently reclaimed its position at the top of the Moto2 manufacturers’ standings with a stunning triple podium at Mugello.
