Aron Canet topped the qualifying session for round fourteen, the Moto2 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with a late surge that earned him pole position. After setting a new lap record of 1m 34.935s, the Fantic rider showcased his speed, breaking his previous record from the last weekend’s event.
Despite dealing with traffic earlier in the session, Canet managed to push through and secure his fourth pole of the season.
The qualifying was marked by close competition, with Joe Roberts of American Racing momentarily holding the top spot before being bested by Canet. Just 0.004s separated the two riders, highlighting the intensity of the session.
Tony Arbolino, who had an impressive early showing, rounded out the front row in third for Elf Marc VDS, just 0.010s behind Canet.
Celestino Vietti made a late charge to secure fourth position for Red Bull KTM Ajo, while Jake Dixon improved his performance to claim fifth place. Fermin Aldeguer emerged as the best of the Boscoscuro riders in sixth, closely followed by championship leader Ai Ogura in seventh.
Zonta van den Goorbergh made a strong showing after advancing from Q1, finishing eighth in a remarkable performance for RW – Idrofoglia.
Dennis Foggia also advanced from Q1 to finish ninth for Italtrans, while Marcos Ramirez completed the top ten, ensuring both American Racing bikes made the cut.
Senna Agius led the rookie charge in eleventh, showcasing his growing potential in the competitive field. Meanwhile, former title leader Sergio Garcia struggled to find pace, ultimately qualifying thirteenth for MT Helmets – MSI.
Diogo Moreira had a challenging session, dropping to fifteenth after spending much of the morning in the pits. Despite a solid effort in Q1, he ended up in nineteenth on the grid following a crash. The session also featured strong performances from Lopez and Oncu, who faced their own struggles but will look to improve in the race.
