Augusto Fernandez Reveals 2025 Plans - "I Will Ride a MotoGP Bike"
Augusto Fernandez reveals his 2025 career plans confirming he will stay on a MotoGP bike in 2025, even if it won’t be a full-time ride.
In a move that reaffirms his commitment to the premier class of motorcycle racing, Spanish MotoGP rider Augusto Fernandez has outlined his plans for the 2025 season, rejecting rumors of a potential switch to World Superbike.
Fernandez’s future came into question following KTM’s decision to revamp its rider lineup for 2025. With the promotion of Pedro Acosta to the factory team, and the rather unexpected signings of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales for the Tech3 Racing team, the Spaniard, found himself without a seat.
Addressing speculation that he might consider a shift to WorldSBK, Fernandez made his intentions clear:
“I admire the World Superbike Championship, but I won’t be racing there next year. My MotoGP journey is far from over.”
The Spaniard confirmed he will stay in MotoGP, albeit not staying on the full-time grid: “It’s certain that I will be riding a MotoGP bike in 2025. However, I won’t be part of the permanent grid.”
As it stands, Fernandez is expected to join Yamaha in 2025, transitioning into a crucial role as a development rider for the struggling Japanese manufacturer.
The Iwata outfit’s existing test structure is in need of reinforcement. Long-time test rider Cal Crutchlow has been struggling with health issues, prompting the team to call upon MotoGP veteran Andrea Dovizioso for recent testing duties in Misano.
Yamaha, currently seeking to bolster its MotoGP project, the team is undergoing significant changes, especially with the new partnership with Pramac Racing, and could present a fitting opportunity for Fernandez.
