Historic Marquez Brothers Podium - First in MotoGP in a Long Time

Alex and Marc Marquez’s double podium at the German GP is historic. The two are the first brothers to finish on the same podium in a long time.

At the 2024 German Grand Prix, Alex and Marc Marquez made history, fulfilling a long-time dream of the two and bringing home Gresini Racing’s first double podium since 2005.

At the start of the weekend at the Sachsenring, there was little sign of a historic day for the Marquez brothers: While Marc crashed twice on Friday, breaking his index finger and injuring his ribs, younger brother Alex binned it in qualifying and had to start the race in pain.

However, in 30 laps around the Sachsenring, the Gresini riders overcame the obstacles set by a bad qualifying, even battling each other for the last two podium spots for the last three laps.

Finishing 2nd and 3rd on Sunday, the Marquez brothers became the first brother pairing to finish on the same premier-class podium since Nobuatsu und Takuma Aoki in 1997.

Back at the City of Imola Grand Prix in the last 90s, the Japanese brothers finished 2nd and 3rd as well.

Although the two did not ride for the same team back then, Takuma, as well as Nobuatsu Aoki rode their Honda onto the podium.
