Secret MotoGP Summer Break Test - KTM & Acosta at the Red Bull Ring
KTM is working hard to improve the RC16 over the summer break. A secret test at the Red Bull Ring with Pedro Acosta at the track is supposed to do the trick.
Following a rather disappointing first half of the season, last year’s Constructors’ runner-up KTM is looking to improve the RC16 at a secret test during the summer break.
After a strong start to the season with several podium finishes for rookie Pedro Acosta and a sprint podium for Brad Binder, KTM have lost its way a bit.
All four riders are struggling to stay in contention, the RC16’s great rideability that made it competitive in 2023 has gone.
Brad Binder was the best KTM rider in the sprint at the Sachsenring last Saturday, finishing eighth, a full 9 seconds behind winner Jorge Martin.
In Sunday’s Grand Prix, Pedro Acosta was the best of the KTM quartet in seventh place – 14.7 seconds behind winner and world championship leader Pecco Bagnaia.
KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer: “I have to defend our riders, they obviously lacked something to perform better.”
This week Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaro will be testing at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Pedro Acosta will support them as an observer in the pits.
The Spaniard traveled from the Sachsenring to Mattighofen on Monday and will be at the KTM factory this week. He approached his employer to get to know the factory structure better.
“First of all, [I am traveling there] to meet everyone because I’m quite new in the factory. I was with them in Moto3 and Moto2, but they are completely smaller in terms of people. And it’s always better to say, to transmit what you feel face to face.”
