Yamaha Explains Quartararo's Thai Grand Prix Debacle - Quartararo: 'The Championship Starts All Over Again'

Quartararo’s zero points at Buriram saw Pecco Bagnaia climb to within two points of the riders’ world championship. Now, Yamaha explains the reason for the Buriram debacle.

After lengthy delays, fans in Thailand saw a disappointing race for Fabio Quartararo. As early as the first lap, the 2021 World Champion and this year’s title contender found himself outside the points ranks.

Even making up for the places lost at the start was not possible for the Frenchman. After the race, Quartararo disappeared and even deactivated his social media channels.

It was not until the press conference for the Australian Grand Prix that Quartararo himself commented on the Thailand race.

“We made a mistake and started with too much pressure. It was a difficult moment because it was an important race and we made that mistake.”

For the upcoming three races that will decide the championship, however, the Frenchman has no worries.

“In Thailand, we made a mistake. That’s why I’m not worried. We know what happened and are ready should it rain again.”

For Quartararo, the world championship virtually starts all over again. After Francesco Bagnaia’s third place in Buriram and his own failure of scoring points, the lead of the 2021 World Champion shrunk to a mere two points.

“It’s not about who gets the most wins. I think it will be whoever has the best average in those three races,” Quartararo believes.

“We’ll do our best and take it race by race. It’s going to be important. I feel like I’m ready. I feel like I can accomplish something good. I’m super motivated!”
