Romano Albesiano On What Will Be Important For Aprilia In The Second Half Of The Season

For Aprilia the 2022 MotoGP season already is their most successful season ever. However, Aprilia’s technical dircetor Romano Albesiano is not fully satisfied yet and points at the importance of the remainder of the season.

With Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, Aprilia couldn’t have wished for a better rider pairing to start the 2022 MotoGP season.

The Noale baseed manufacturer went into the summer break as leading constructor, having secured their first win in Termas de Rio Hondo.

However, Romano Albesiano, technical director at Aprilia, is not completely satisfied with the season so far. Until the Dutch Grand Prix, Aleix Espargaro was more or less a sole entertainer on the Italian bike.

It was only in Assen when Maverick Vinales was able to set a mark and secure his first podium on his Aprilia. Albesiano states:

“What doesn’t make me happy at the moment is that only Aleix has reached the level to be at the top. But Maverick is getting closer, I will be happy if he reaches the same level.”

However, this is not the only reason why Albesiano is pushing for a more balanced performance level within the team. He is already focused on 2023.

With the signing of the RNF Racing Team to become a Aprilia satellite team for 2023 the Italian thinks it is crucial to start off the relationship well. To welcome two new riders into the Aprilia family, Albesiano wants the bike to be as easy to ride as possible.

“We need to find the right balance between a winning bike and a bike that is easy for everyone to ride. Especially with the arrival of two new prototypes for the next MotoGP season.”

“It will be crucial for the 2023 season to bring Maverick [Vinales] onto the same level as Aleix [Espargaro]. We need to improve Maverick’s feeling for the entry and the middle of the turn, especially on a hot lap.”

But, despite being a little picky , Albesiano acknowledges Vinales’ development on the Aprilia and is cheerful for the remainder of the season.

” I am very optimistic because I see that the capacity for growth is enormous regardless of the level we are already at.”
