“Repeated Infractions” Cost RNF Racing Their 2024 MotoGP Entry
Published: 27th November 2023
Following a decision by the MotoGP Selection Commitee, the RNF Racing Team will not be granted a 2024 MotoGP license. Here’s all we know.
The rift between CryptoDATA CEO Ovidiu Toma, ousted team principal Razlan Razali (who still owns 40 percent of the team), and Dorna management became apparent in Doha. In Valencia, the disagreement among the contractual partners reached its peak.
In recent weeks, the CryptoDATA RNF Aprilia customer team faced accusations of financial irregularities. Additionally, today, Dorna announced that the Participation Agreement had been repeatedly breached.
As a result, the MotoGP Selection Committee (comprising FIM, IRTA, and Dorna) has decided not to grant a license to the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team for the 2024 season.
The Selection Committee is now reviewing various applications for the two satellite team slots. The application from Leopard Racing has already been rejected.
However, in Valencia, there are rumors that US millionaire Justin Marks, owner of the successful Track House NASCAR team, is interested in taking over a new independent team with Aprilia equipment.
He is also willing to acquire the entire technical team from RNF and uphold the contracts with Aprilia Racing.
There will be no changes to the rider lineup, as Miguel Oliveira and Raúl Fernández (impressive fifth place at the recent season finale) have Aprilia contracts until the end of 2024.
Due to Oliveira’s injury since the Qatar Grand Prix (broken shoulder blade), Raúl Fernández will be the sole participant in the Tuesday test, making his debut with the Aprilia RS-GP23. Oliveira had the opportunity to test this model in Misano on September 11.
