MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo has once again scored a victory in court. The Spaniard already had to show several times that he was not domiciled in Spain in 2013 and 2015.
Lorenzo lived in Switzerland for a long time during his active career. The current trial was about the year 2016.
Spain’s tax investigators demanded an 11.4 million euro payment, which consisted of 7.8 million euros in back taxes and a penalty of 3.6 million euros.
Lorenzo’s counterpart argued that Switzerland did not count as the Spaniard’s center of life, as four of the 18 races of the 2016 MotoGP season had taken place in Spain, but not a single one in Switzerland.
Lorenzo countered that he had no influence on where the world championship rounds of the top GP class took place.
In addition, the other side did not succeed in proving that Lorenzo had been in Spain for more than 183 days – only then would the Spaniard be liable to pay taxes in his home country for the year in question.
