2023 started better than the previous season for Franco Morbidelli. The Italian talks about his Yamaha future and the Japanese’s faith in him.

After a disappointing 2022 campaign in the Yamaha factory team, Franco Morbidelli is looking to improve on the Japanese bike in 2023.

The Italian’s contract runs until the end of the season and to retain his place not only in the factory team but also in MotoGP in general, Morbidelli will need to improve.

After underperforming on the factory Yamaha in 2022, the first quarter of the season culminated in a fourth-place finish in Argentina in 2023.

However, that certainly does not secure a new contract for the Italian. Yamaha continues to say that they would like to work with Morbidelli beyond 2023, but it is no secret that the Japanese are also looking for other top-class riders.

In an interview with Motorsport.com, Morbidelli talks about a possible future with Yamaha. “When I speak with the Japanese and with the guys from my team, I definitely feel that.”

“Especially after the last part of last season and the beginning of this season – the confidence is much bigger than last year,” said the 2020 runner-up.

The Italian knows that for a new contract with Yamaha, he needs to up the ante and get closer to te<mmate Fabio Quartararo.

“I have to keep going, I have to keep pushing myself because it’s really complicated to survive. So I have to keep the energy up.”

"Confident In Myself And My Future"

Despite the frequent setbacks, Morbidelli has not lost faith in his own abilities. On the contrary, he says, the difficult time last season helped him become mentally stronger.

“I have a lot of faith in my resources now. The adversity I had last year has made me a better person, a better rider, a better athlete and a better professional. And that’s what I wanted to do.”

“I wanted to step it up a notch and challenge whoever gets the best results with the package I have. And it looks like that’s going to happen this year. That’s the positive thing about this year and the thing that keeps me confident in myself and my future.”
