After his blockbuster move to the Gresini Racing Team for 2024, Marc Marquez reveals which spec Ducati he will ride in 2024.
At the Indonesian Grand Prix, eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez confirmed his choice for the 2024 MotoGP season, announcing his switch to Gresini Racing.
Since then the Spaniard’s move onto the Ducati raised questions whether he might get the newest spec Desmosedici for 2024.
During an event preceding the Australian Grand Prix, where he led a parade of enthusiastic Australian MotoGP fans to Phillip Island and held a Q&A session, Marquez resolved the speculation about his bike selection.
He disclosed that he will be riding the current GP23 version of the Ducati in the upcoming season.
Speaking about his decision, Marquez expressed his anticipation for the next season, mentioning his belief in having the bike that could win the current Championship.
He clarified that he would be using the 2023 Ducati GP23, a model already employed by Championship contenders Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
While both, along with Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli, are set to upgrade to the 2024 version, only four factory machines are available.
This means Marquez will be riding an older-spec machine in the upcoming season, adding an intriguing dimension to his transition after 11 years with Honda.
The potential disadvantage of riding the GP23, although slightly older, remains uncertain, given its high regard within the MotoGP grid.
Marco Bezzecchi, currently third in the Championship, also uses the previous year’s factory Ducati machine, the GP22.
Bezzecchi and Marquez will share the same machinery in the next season and are likely to compete for one of the factory machines in the following years, especially considering their contracts expire at the end of the upcoming season.
