KTM team manager Francesco Guidotti confirmed to GPOne.com that the 2021 Moto3 World Champion will remain within the KTM structure.

KTM has therefore pulled the contract extension option for 2024 with Acosta – a promotion of the Spaniard to the premier class is imminent.

“Pedro] Acosta will remain a KTM rider, we had an option and we took it. He will be in MotoGP but with which team will be a surprise.”

KTM is facing one of the toughest rider decisions for 2024, with both riders theoretically in the factory team, Brad Binder and Jack Miller both under contract for 2024, as is Pol Espargaro in the Tech3 GasGas team.

Rookie Augusto Fernandez is showing a strong first half of the season, culminating in a fourth place at Le Mans so far.

The problem quickly becomes clear: KTM has too many riders for their four MotoGP grid slots and with Dorna refusing to increase the MotoGP field, one of the four current MotoGP riders will leave the KTM structure empty in 2024.
