The 2022 MotoGP season hasn’t been kind to former World Champion Joan Mir. Six DNFs in 13 races leaves Mir in the middle of the standings. Now it gets even worse.
After a massive highsider in the Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring Joan Mir leaves Austria with a fractured ankle. For Mir this is possible the lowest he has been in the 2022 season.
According to a press release, initial checks resulted in some bone fragments located in the Spaniard’s right ankle. As of now, the severity of the fracture is not clear. Mir will undergo further check ups on Monday.

“I had a very big crash at Turn 4. I lost the rear and it was a high side. It could’ve been a lot worse, so I feel lucky. Initial checks show some bone fragments and fractures in my ankle. Tomorrow I’ll go for further checks and an MRI” @MotoGP @JoanMirOfficial pic.twitter.com/Yk2pInBGpV
A fractured ankle is another punch in the face for Mir in his try to get his performance back to its 2020 peak.
Mir achieved the surprising 2020 Champion title by being super consistent, earning him the nickname “Mr. Consistency”. The 2022 season doesn’t go the way his nickname impliments.
