Amidst the Marquez Honda exit drama, Repsol, the Honda factory team’s main sponsor suddenly becomes a hot commodity.

Despite Marc Márquez’s unexpected departure, Repsol, Honda’s enduring sponsor, has affirmed its dedication to the Japanese manufacturer.

Repsol has chosen to uphold its agreement with Honda until the culmination of 2024. This resolution coincides with the 30th anniversary of the enduring alliance between Repsol and Honda, a collaboration that commenced in 1995.

The premature conclusion of the contract with the eight-time world champion, who appears on the verge of confirming his affiliation with the Gresini team, will not impact the longstanding connection between Repsol and Honda.

The pact will remain intact until December 31, 2024. This determination was reached in October last year when Repsol extended its partnership with the Tokyo-based brand for an additional two years.

The primary aim was to mark the 30th anniversary of their association by securing the championship’s top position with Márquez, whose initial contract with Honda was due to conclude in 2024.

According to reports from the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, it appears that Márquez and Repsol are heading in separate directions.

From next season onwards, Repsol will no longer be associated with the champion from Cervera, despite accompanying him throughout his entire MotoGP journey.

Nonetheless, there’s a chance that the bond between Marc and the Spanish company could be rekindled in 2025, particularly if Repsol opts to terminate its collaboration with Honda.

Much will depend on the performance of the Japanese brand in the upcoming season and the trajectory of Márquez’s career after a possible one-year stint with the Gresini team.
