Here's Why Gigi Dall'Igna Would Have Preferred Miguel Oliveira At Gresini
Categories: MotoGP
With Alex Marquez Gresini and Ducati have landed a big hit on the rider market. But despite signing a two-time champion, Gigi Dall’Igna would have preferred Miguel Oliveira at Gresini.
For the 2022 season Gigi Dall’Igna and his men managed to bring eight Desmosedici GP to the start, five of them with official specifications.
Above all, the Emilian prototype seems the easiest to ride at the moment, suitable even for a rookie, as shown by the results of Bastianini in 2021 and Bezzecchi in 2022.
After the departures of Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci in 2020, the Italian manufacturer opted to select only “internal” and young riders with Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia.
According to Corsedimoto.com, Dall’Igna stated: ” When you start a career in MotoGP with a young rider, you do not know what will happen – stresses the General Manager of Ducati Corse.”
Two years after making the big step, the team manager concludes: “In the end we are quite satisfied with the results we achieved. We have more than one top rider on our bike at the moment. That has always been our goal .”

For the next season another young rider will join the Gresini team. Two-time world champion Alex Marquez will join Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Nadia Gresini and the team’s top officials first held talks with Miguel Oliveira before negotiations ended unsuccessfully.
Dall’Igna specifies: “The final discussion was between Oliveira and Gresini Racing, not Ducati. The team had to make the final decision .”
He admits to have preferred Oliveira: ” We would have been very happy to have Oliveira on our bike in the future. He is a rider I really like. Not only me, everyone at Ducati likes his riding style and his mental attitude. He definitely was the best option”.
