Despite several podium finishes in the first half of the past season, the Frenchman was unable to confirm his performance in the second half of the season.

The new team manager of the Pramac Ducati team, Gino Borsoi, believes that Zarco could have flipped the switch over the winter break – the Italian expects a lot from his rider.

In an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com, he predicts Zarco could not only celebrate his first race victory but several successes in 2023.

“He absolutely has the skills to win not just one race, but several. He is a talent. Last year he also showed that at the beginning of the season.”

Borsoi already knows Zarco’s teammate Jorge Martin well from Moto3, however, Zarco was “new” to him. Over the winter break, the Italian and his team “worked a lot” with the Frenchman.

“We have to understand what he needs to stay at the same level. As I said, we talked a lot about it over the winter and I think we got a pretty clear idea.”

Bringing Back The Confidence

Discontent arose at the Pramac box in the second half of last season. Borsoi confirms that there wasn’t always full confidence in the team.

“The team was also rebuilt a bit to give him [Johann Zarco] a bit more courage and that belief in the group.”

“He lacked that a bit last year, but I can’t say much about that because I wasn’t in the team yet.”

For the new season, Zarco wants to recapture his incredibly successful time in Moto2. To achieve this, he reunites with his former Moto2 crew chief Massimo Branchini.

Together with Branchini, the Frenchman had won the Moto2 world title twice before moving up to MotoGP in 2017.

Borsoi believes in his protégé and hopes to tease the last bit of performance out of Zarco in the coming season.

“I think Zarco has made the step. He worked a lot this winter, not only physically, we also talked a lot. He gives a good impression, he has the desire to work.”
