Gigi Dall'Igna: 'Nobody shall Disturb Pecco' - Team Orders Not Ruled Out
After the Austrian GP, Pecco Bagnaia is a contender for the 2022 MotoGP title again. However, Gigi Dall’Igna knows that a certain situation is needed to close the gap.
After two constructor title in a row, Ducati is ready for more. Having missed it in 2021, Francesco Bagnaia wants to win the riders’ championship.
Unfortunately, the Italian has to close a 44 point gap he accrued due to mistakes, technical problems and some unfortunate incidents in the first part of the season.
However, since the Dutch GP in Assen, Bagnaia has been unbeatable. With three wins since then momentum is on the Italian’s side.
“He is a serial winner, when he starts winning races he wins quite a few ” , said Gigi Dall’Igna. “It was not easy, the soft front tyre was the safe one, but not the best performing one. Pecco handled it well.”
With rather cool temperatures and the threat of rain, Bagnaia opted for the soft front tire to be on the safe side.
For the Italian, mistakes are forbidden from now till the last race in Valencia in order to still have a chance at the title.
As Dall’Igna states: “We can’t just focus on our strength, we have to create a certain situation for Pecco. Nobody shall disturb him.”
The race to catch up is already complicated and can not be slowed down any further. Bagnaia has made too many mistakes so far, the next one could be fatal.
In order to path the way for a possible Bagnaia title, Ducati does not shy away from team orders either. As Davide Tardozzi states:
“There is no team order, but maybe it is time to think about it before it is too late. We will think race by race and find out what to do with each of them [Ducati riders].”
“From now on we will definitely think about it [team orders]. I expect at least three more wins from Pecco this season.”
